7 injured as taxi intentionally rams pedestrians on Moscow sidewalk during World Cup

Update: 1130hrs 16June2018 — While initial reports indicate that the event was not an intentional ramming, video of the incident brings into question this assessment as the vehicle appears to be targeting the foreign nationals (Mexico) on the sidewalk.

Today in Moscow, a taxi lost control and rammed pedestrians in the center of Moscow, in the Gostiny Dvor, on Ilyinka street. As many as seven people have been injured, among them Mexican citizens in Moscow for the World Cup.

According to Russia news service Pravda, the driver, Anarbek uulu Chyngyz, a Kyrgz national was driving in Moscow on a Kyrgyzstan driver’s license.

State Department raises Russia to Level 3

Traveler’s to Russia for the World Cup 2018, should be alert to the threat of terror events occuring at even locales. Moscow has two separate venues which are hosting World Cup matches. On 15 June 2018, the US Department of State raised the threat level for Russian to “Threat Level 3”, urging US citizens to reconsider travel due to increase risk of terrorism and the fact US citizens have been subjected to singling out for harassment by authorities.

The interactive map provides the addresses of the two Moscow stadiums, the location of the incident in Moscow center and the medical facility which is identified by Russian authorities as the hospital best prepared to deal with foreign national’s needing medical assistance (note, there are other hospitals in Moscow, to which first responders may choose to transport injured individuals).
