Attempted bombing U.S. Embassy Cairo - Embassies worldwide on alert

U.S. Embassy Cairo - A man was arrested immediately after he attempted to ignite a suicide bomb in the vicinity of the U.S. Embassy.

We first learned of the event through our partner, AlertsUSA and their SMS/Email alert system shortly after the event took place.

Let us walk you through the event, via social media reporting of the incident by Mahmoud Gamal.

A male, walking with a backpack is seen in the following video. One can see a small explosion in his backpack and the male thrown to the ground. Indicative of an improvised explosive device (IED) being carried in the backpack. The IED appears to have fizzled and the damage and injuries were limited to the lone attacker.

Immediately after the explosion, members of the Cairo security forces captured the injured bomber.

The explosive device which did not fully detonate is then shown to those in vicinity.
