Securely Travel Alert - Civil Unrest

United Arab Emirates - The UAE arrested a number of Iranian who stand accused of planning terror attacks to coincide with the anniversary of the assassination of Qassem Soleimani. U.S and Israel citizens present in the UAE would be the most probably targets.

Niger - More than 100 individuals were killed in fighting with two villages in the west of the country. The two villages, located about 120km north of Niamey has been targeted previously by Jihadist groups. The timing of the attack coincided with the announcement on the results of the first round of the presidential election.

Securely Travel Alert - Health

Venezuela - The most current CDC notice re health infrastructure in Venezuela pegs the country as have inadequate health care with the infrastructure taxed and failing. CDC recommends against all nonessential travel to Venezuela.

Securely Travel - COVID-Travel

Japan - On 30 December, Japan essentially closed the country to foreign travelers. Exceptions exist for Japanese citizens, their families, residents and U.S. military personnel.

United Kingdom - The CDC has assigned a Level 4: COVID-19 Very High label on travel to the United Kingdom on 28 December. Travelers are urged to avoid all travel to the United Kingdom. Read more on the CDC site.

United States - COVID-19 and Cruise Ship Travel

The CDC continues to urge travelers to avoid cruise ship travel at this time. Explicitly, the CDC notes “CDC recommends that all people avoid travel on cruise ships, including river cruises, worldwide, because the risk of COVID-19 on cruise ships is very high. It is especially important that people with an increased risk of severe illness avoid travel on cruise ships, including river cruises.”

On 30 October 2020, the CDC issued to the cruise industry a framework to allow for passengers to embark/disembark from U.S. ports. This framework is available for public perusal at his link: CDC Cruise Ship Guidance
