1 - United States - California power outages
The Pacific Gas and Electric company has announced the intent to turn off the power in as many as 34 29 California counties due to high winds. The outages, which began at the stroke of midnight on 08 October, could last for as many as five days. The rationale is to reduce the threat of fire in areas with substantial foliage. Google has created an interactive map to locate the affected areas.
2 - United States - STD’s on the rise
The Center for Disease Control advises that their 2018 study into STD’s show a steady increase across the board. With the most dramatic rise occurring in the number of cases of congenital syphilis.

3 - Hong Kong - China - Crossborder MTR suspended

Following the attack by a masked individual on a Guangzho destined MTR train the MTR service between Hong Kong and China has been suspended. Depending upon which news source one relies upon, the masked individual was either one of the protesters or a police officer dressed as a protester to facilitate the closure of the MTR and make transit across and throughout Hong Kong more difficult for the protesters to act in unison.
