Hong Kong - A Hong Kong protests took a violent turn with one protester being shot at point blank range and an individual who confronted protesters was set afire. Hong Kong’s chief executive, Carrie Lam, spoke out against the violence and noted that it was “wishful thinking” that violence would cause desired change, and admonished that the “city is at the brink of no return.”

Bolivia - This morning we updated our Country Brief for Bolivia and advise travelers to reconsider travel at this time due to the extreme political situation. On 10 November 2019, following 20 days of nationwide protests, which culminated in the military asking the president, Evo Morales, to step down, which he did this weekend. The events are essentially a coup d’etat. At this time the governments of the United States, Canada, Australia and the United Kingdom have all warned their citizens that the “the political situation remains unpredictable. Expect roadblocks, traffic and transport disruptions. Avoid demonstrations.”

Poland - The U.S. State Department issued a security alert concerning numerous public events, today, Polish Independence Day.

Australia - As many as 47 wild fires are currently being fought in Queensland and New South Wales (Australia’s east coast which includes the greater Sydney and Greater Hunter regions) and has resulted in deaths, numerous injuries and widespread evacuation. A state of emergency has been declared for the affected area. The following video is current as of 1100 ET 11 November.

United States - The National Weather Service has issued a “Deep Freeze” alert for severe Arctic like weather through 12 November affecting the central and eastern portions of the United States from the norther border down to the Gulf Coast. Temperatures may dip as much as 40 degrees below normal.

Bangladesh - Even though the government evacuated more than 500,000, Cyclone “Bulbul” resulted in destruction and casualties in Bangladesh as it made landfall over the weekend. Rescue and recovery efforts are underway. We alerted readers to the threat 08 November.
