SUMMARY: A limited military engagement has occurred along the Armenia/Azerbaijan border resulting in approximately 50 KIA. While demonstrations and sporadic urban violence are being reported in Haiti. In the midwest states of Wisconsin and Minnesota, 15,000 nurses are currently on strike. Across the Southwest of the U.S. flash flooding continues to be a threat and travelers unfamiliar with the area should follow local guidance. In Italy, there has been an influx of West Nile and in Panama there has been an uptick in malaria.
Armenia/Azerbaijan - A small scale shooting war has broken out along the Armenia-Azerbaijan border. According to the Guardian, several Armenian towns were showered with artillery fire today, and it was only responding to the provocation.
Haiti - The U.S. Department of State is warning their constituents of reports of violence in Metro Port-au-Prince and advising to avoid unnecessary travel and remain vigilant.
United States - 15,000 nurses are currently on strike in Wisconsin and Minnesota according to AFP. The nurses are seeking improved working conditions and wages. The strike is expected to continue through 14 September.
Nepal - fuel transporters are currently on strike, which may impact distribution of fuel items, but should not have a material impact on travelers.
Vanuatu: The country of Vanuatu has removed restriction additional COVID restrictions and travelers no longer have to provide evidence of a supervised COVID test to gain entry.
The U.S. National Weather service highlights the heavy rain moving west to east causing flash flooding in the Southwest of the United States.
Italy - According to Crisis 24, elevated instance of West Nile virus have been encountered in the northern regions of Italy. West Nile is transmitted via mosquitoes, when traveling in the region be mindful and bring (and use) repellent.
Panama - Crisis 24 is also reporting that Panama is experiencing an influx in Malaria. Travelers, including cruise ship travelers should keep this in mind and speak with their health care providers about anti-malaria prophylactics prior to travel.
