SUMMARY: Hurricane Fiona put the entire territory of Puerto Rico in the dark on 18 September as the power grid went down According to LUMA, power has been restored to portions of Puerto Rico as of 0500 ET, 19 September. Travelers may expect to have their movements in downtown Santiago, Chile disrupted as a military parade is scheduled for today, while in Malawi, a nationwide trucker strike is taking place. Ceasefires continue to be holding in the two border conflicts of last week - Kyrgyzstan/Tajikistan and Armenia/Azerbaijan. Meanwhile, IHG Hotels tells us about a cyberattack which crashed their systems. Interruption in goods and services may be expected throughout the UK Commonwealth asthe memorial service for Queen Elizabeth takes place today. On the weather front, in addition to Hurricane Fiona marching through the Leeward Islands, Typhoon Nanmadol has made landfall in Japan and Tropical Storm Madeline is marching northward along the coast of Mexico heading toward Baja California Sur. In travel news, the CEO of Schiphol Airport has resigned amidst failure to keep up with growing numbers of travelers and every increasing lines causing passengers to miss flights.

Securely Travel - Crisis

Puerto Rico - The entire island territory of Puerto Rico suffered a power outage on 18 September due to Hurricane Fiona. As of 0500 ET, 19 September, power has returned to portions of the territory according to Autoridad de Energía Eléctrica. Link to current LUMA outage map. Chile - Military parade is scheduled for downtown Santiago, on 19 September. Expect transport and business disruption.

Kyrgyzstan/Tajikistan - A cease fire is now in place over the border conflict.

Armenia/Azerbaijan - The cease fire continues to hold, following a brief border conflict.

Iran - Following the custodial (morality police) death of Masha Amini, protests have occurred throughout the country, including the cities of Tehran, Bandar Abbas, Birjand, Gachsaran, Khorramshahr, Mahshahr, Shiraz, Tabriz,  Abadan, Ardebil, and Sanandaj.

International Hotel Group - IHG Hotels has advised that their systems are down following cyber attack. IHG noted that no customer data was lost and “IHG employs a defence-in-depth strategy to information security that leverages many modern security solutions.”

Malawi - A nationwide truck driver strike is scheduled for 19 September.

UK & British Commonwealth - Today is the memorial for Queen Elizabeth II, downtown London will be affected. Travelers may expect disruptions to their travel and availability of goods and services throughout the Commonwealth.

The National Hurricane Center is issuing advisories on Hurricane 
Fiona, located between Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic.

Mexico - From the National Weather Service

"Tropical Storm Madeline, located a few hundred miles south-southeast of 
the southern tip of the Baja California peninsula. "
Japan - Typhoon Nanmadol hits Japan. 
According to the Japanese meteorological agency the typhoon made landfall near Izumo City, Shimane Prefecture around 16:30 on the 19th.
