1 - Slovenia - Adria Airways suspends most operations

Securely Travel - Adria Airways

Due to financial difficulties Adria Airways suspended operations on 25 September 2019 for all routes except one - Ljubljana - Frankfurt - Ljubljana according to the airline’s website. The suspension of flights is expected to minimally continue for the next few days. The US Department of State notes that Trieste, Zabreb and Venice are all within 2.5 hours drive of Ljubljana. Separately, the Slovenia CAA has given the airline until October 2, 2019, 23:59 (GMT+2) to submit a proper restructuring plan to the CAA, including plans on how it will restore profitability. If the airline fails to provide the required documents, its AOC will be terminated, grounding every single aircraft that Adria Airways operates.


2 - IRAN - US, UK and Australian nationals risk arrest

The UK FCO issued a warning concerning travel to Iran by their constituents given the recent arrest of UK nationals by the Iranian regime. While the Australian government confirmed their citizens were also being detained, coincidentally after Australia stated their position on keeping the Strait of Hormuz open. Meanwhile, NBC News reports that the UN has opted to highlight the detention of many foreign visitors during the General Assembly meeting.

Foreign national travelers to Iran should bear in mind that the rules of law may not apply to them and that unique charges may be created solely for the purpose of detaining the individual. Recommendation from Securely Travel is not to travel to Iran at this time if you


3 - Egypt - Civil Unrest

The UK FCO advised their constituents on 25 September of anticipated civil unrest in Cairo and other cities as citizens take to the streets to protest President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi driven by grievances over economic austerity and allegations of official corruption.

Travelers are advised to monitor local media, stay away from areas where protests are taking place and stay in touch with their respective Embassy or Consulate for citizen updates.
