Today’s brief is culled from global travel warnings and alerts.
U.S. - Hawaii - Hazardous plumes of “laze”
The USGS reports that continued flow of lava into the Pacific Ocean creates dangerous clouds of “Laze” which is hazardous to one’s health. While the lava flow from the Kilauea Volcano continues, affected areas remain confined to the small quadrant of the Big Island within the volcano’s East Rift Zone, see map below. Local television created an “impact” piece which provides a snap-shot into how the volcano’s eruption has affected local residents.
Hawaii Volcano Eruptions:
- At least 40 structures destroyed due to lava
- Lava has reached the Pacific Ocean, causing a new hazardous plume of 'laze', which can damage people's lungs and eyes
- USGS says they expect eruptions to continuepic.twitter.com/AcJpRUg3J6— PM Breaking News (@PMBreakingNews) May 21, 2018

Italy - Air Traffic disrupted
A planned strike by Air Traffic Controllers is affecting flights into and out of Italian air space. Travelers are urged to double-check with their airline to determine if their flight(s) are delayed or canceled. In addition, the nationwide industrial action may affect one’s ability to transit intra-Italy during the protest period.
