Volcano continues to erupt in Hawaii. Malaysia general election today. Djibouti terrorist alert. Angola violent crime alert. Israel stay clear of Golan Heights. Bolivia unrest in Sucre.

United StatesUnited States - Kilauea Volcano on the Big Island of Hawaii

Mount Kilauea continues to erupt, pushing rivers of lava out of the many fissures, now numbering 14. The USGS estimates that over 1200 earthquakes have been recorded. Such is the volume of molten lava moving above the surface, the sodium-dioxide levels are at deadly levels. The volcanic activity that began May 3 is in a remote part of the Big Island—more than 200 miles from Waikiki. The rest of the state is unaffected, with all airports open and all airlines flying regular schedules.

Malaysia - General Election 09 May 2018

The UK FCO warns travelers:

The Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) advise against all but essential travel to all islands off the coast of eastern Sabah from Kudat to Tawau, including (but not limited to) Lankayan, Mabul, Pom Pom, Kapalai, Litigan, Sipadan and Mataking. A general election will take place on Wednesday 9 May 2018. Wednesday will be a public holiday in Malaysia. There may be some disruption to travel. Terrorists are very likely to try to carry out attacks in Malaysia. Attacks could happen anywhere, including in places visited by foreigners. Be vigilant, monitor local media and follow the advice of the local authorities.

Djibouti - The Somalia-based terrorist group Al-Shabaab has issued public threats against Djibouti.

The New Zealand Foreign Office issued a terrorism warning for Djibouti.

Terrorism: There is an ongoing threat from terrorism in Djibouti. The Somalia-based terrorist group Al-Shabaab has issued public threats against Djibouti. In May 2014, they claimed responsibility for a suicide bombing at La Chaumiere restaurant in Djibouti city, which killed 3 and injured many more, including foreign nationals. Past attacks have resulted in foreign fatalities and the possibility of future indiscriminate attacks, particularly in areas frequented by foreigners, cannot be discounted.

Angola - Increase in Violent Crime

The New Zealand Foreign Office issued a violent crime warning for Angola.

Violent Crime There is a high level of violent crime in Angola, especially in the capital Luanda. Armed robbery, assault, carjackings and muggings are common. Incidents can occur at any time of the day but are more prevalent at night. The provinces of Cabinda, North Lunda and South Lunda have particular security concerns. Armed groups are active in Cabinda and there have been reports in the past of violent attacks targeting foreigners in all three provinces.
