Togo

Togo - planned protests in Lomé 11,12 and 14 April

The UK’s FCO’s advisory:

There have been sporadic marches and protests in Lomé and around the country since August 2017, over demands to restore the 1992 constitution. The government has banned protests, but opposition groups have announced protests for 11, 12 and 14 April in Lomé. You should remain vigilant during these times, avoid crowds and demonstrations and monitor local media.

Earlier in April we had included the Canadian government travel advisory re Togo in a Securely Travel Brief which warned its citizens to “exercise a high degree of caution” due to an increase in violent crime, social unrest and politically motivated demonstrations.

Bangladesh - Ongoing student demonstrations

The US Department of State advisory caution travelers to use caution throughout Dhaka, as the ongoing student demonstrations may continue for several days.

Local sources report ongoing student demonstrations in Dhaka. Similar demonstrations may also occur in other cities in Bangladesh. The demonstrations are reportedly in reaction to a Government of Bangladesh policy that allocates certain percentages of civil service jobs to specific categories of individuals, reducing the number of jobs available to many university graduates.

Nicaragua - Forest fires in Indio Maiz Nature Reserve

The US Department of State issued an alert re forest fires in the Indio Maiz Nature Reserve via Twitter.

Large forest fire in the Indio Maiz Nature Reserve. The Government of #Nicaragua has issued a Yellow Alert for the area and is working to contain the fire. Avoid travel to the affected area until the fire is under control.

Pakistan - US Government Personnel Movement Restricted

As a result of a fatal accident involving an Embassy vehicle over this past weekend, movements by U.S. government personnel in Islamabad have been temporarily restricted.
