Securely Travel Brief – 11 June 2018

Today’s brief is culled from global travel warnings and alerts.

Nicaragua - Reconsider Travel

The US Department of State has raised their security advisory level for Nicaragua to Level 3 — they urge travelers to Nicaragua to reconsider. The level of crime, civil unrest and the fact that health care providers (hospitals) are overwhelmed at this time are all cited as the rationale behind the adjustment of the threat level.

Mozambique - Possible attacks in Palma

The US Embassy Maputo are advising travelers of the threat of attack to travelers to the Cabo Delgado Province, specifically the city of Palma. The warning has been echoed by both Canada and Australian governments.

Media reports indicate that business, government and missionary entities are specifically being targeted. Multiple deaths have been attributed to these attacks.

Mexico - Hurricanes Aletta and Bud - West coast of Mexico

A travel advisory has been issued for the west coast of Mexico due to Hurricanes Bud and Aletta. As of 11 June 2018, Aletta has weakened, and Bud has intensified. Areas of concern, according to authorities in Mexico are along the coast from Acapulco north to Puerto Vallarta area. Travelers in and outside of the identified “warning zone” should maintain vigilance and monitor local weather updates.
