1 - Malaysia - Air Pollution due to Indonesia fires
The UK’s Foreign and Commonwealth Office issued an alert to their citizens in Malaysia concerning the ongoing forest fires in Indonesia which are causing serious air pollution in Malaysia. Throughout Malaysia, schools and other public entities have closed. The FCO recommends that monitoring the Air Pollutant Index Management System (APIMS) updates and health advisories issued by the Malaysian Department of Environment (DOE).
The DOE has an app which travelers may download to monitor the current air quality, which is also available via an interactive page of the Air Pollution Index of Malaysia.
2 - Poland - Tourists and drink spiking
Both the United States Department of State and the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs have issued alerts to tourists visiting Warsaw, Poland to be alert for drink spiking. Additionally, travelers should verify the price of a drink prior to ordering and then confirm the prices expected are correct on the bill when closing out one’s bar tab and credit card receipt to avoid overcharges.
3 - Mexico - Tropical Storm Lorena threatens west coast
As noted in prior Securely Travel Brief - Tropical Storm Lorena, with two additional tropical storms right on her heels continues to threaten the Pacific Coast of Mexico. As the storm moves up the coast, the National Hurricane Center advises it could bring hurricane force winds to the Mexican state of Baja California Sur. Travelers should monitor local conditions and follow evacuation orders as directed by local authorities.
