Governments of United States and Canada ordering draw down of personnel

The security situation in Haiti has now reached critical mass. The governments of the United States and Canada have ordered the mandatory evacuation of non-critical mission personnel and all dependents.

As of the afternoon of 16 February 2019, roadblocks were being reported appearing, protests and gunfire as well. Citizens are protesting the apparent disappearance through government fraud and embezzlement of over $1 billion of aid.

The government of Canada has declared Haiti a “AVOID ALL TRAVEL” zone. “Avoid all travel to Haiti due to civil unrest throughout the country. The security situation could further deteriorate quickly. You should consider leaving by commercial means while they are available, if you can do so safely.”
