Travel Brief - April 10,2018
The governments of the United States, Canada, and the United Kingdom have issued travel warnings and advisories for a number of locales around the world.
France: Rail Strike Advisory
The UK issued a warning to its citizens concerning the rail strike taking place in France, which we discussed in the 09 April 2018 edition of the Travel Brief. The UK updated the advice which we derived from media. They advise.
“There are planned strikes at Air France and its subsidiaries on 10, 11, 17, 23 and 24 April. You should check with your airline before travelling. A series of rolling strikes are planned on SNCF trains, comprising 2 days of strikes every 5 days, between 3 April and 28 June 2018. Strike dates for April can be found on the SNCF website. Be aware that strikes and disruptions may occur outside of these dates. You should check with your train operator for updates before travelling and allow extra time for your journey.
If you’re crossing the Channel, check the website of your chosen operator before you set off. In the event of any disruption, information about alternative routes and operators is available via this interactive map.”

The UK also issued a warning about it’s own British Overseas Territories: St Helena, Ascension and Tristan da Cunha.
The UK FCO warns, that all travelers must take out comprehensive travel and medical insurance before travelling. The warning continues, while there’s “no recent history of terrorism in St Helena, Ascension and Tristan da Cunha, attacks can’t be ruled out.”
It concludes with special conditions exist when visiting Tristan da Cunha and Ascension. “Travel to Tristan da Cunha is by sea only. St. Helena Airport offers weekly flights via Windhoek to Johannesburg or Cape Town. Due to runway repairs required to the Ascension Island runway, the Ministry of Defence has temporarily rerouted the South Atlantic Airbridge via an alternative location. Until further notice, the only means of access to Ascension Island is via a monthly flight from St Helena. You should contact your travel agent, local tour booking office or Ascension Island employer for the latest up-to-date information.”
