Couple making whoopie gets beached off a Tui Cruises ship

The idea of a romantic cruise percolates through many a couple’s thoughts as they plan their cruise to the Caribbean, and Renate F. and her husband Volker clearly had romance in mind when they booked their passage on Tui Cruises, Mein Schiff 5. For this German couple, their cruise ended abruptly, allegedly for being a bit too loud in the “making whoopie” department.

It is not uncommon for cruise lines to beach passengers for unruly behavior. We saw this occur recently when a woman balanced herself on the ledge of her balcony stateroom for a selfie and Royal Caribbean banned her for life. And then again, when a loud and violent group seemingly terrorized fellow passengers on a cruise out of Australia on Princess Cruise Lines, the group was escorted off the ship at the next port of call.

A shorter than expected cruise

The couple embarked on 01 April according to Renate the ship anchored off Barbados on the first day, and the couple were a bit “passionate” in their cabin, and yes, they did leave the balcony door open. Renate admits that they were a bit, loud. Later that same day, the couple had a disagreement, also loud which was also loud and with the balcony door open.

Shortly afterwards, a crew member knocked on their cabin door and were informed that the captain had made the decision to disembark the couple, immediately. And that they were. According to Renate, they were put ashore at 0100 hours.

Couple files suit against Tui Cruises

The couple has filed suit requesting reimbursement of costs associated with the cruise and the expenses incurred as a result of the expulsion for land accommodations and the return flight to Germany, all told, approximately US$10,000.

Tui Cruises said, “The case is known to us. The safety of our guests is our top priority. Due to a security-related incident, we have made use of our house right and asked the guests to leave the ship. This was done to protect the guests themselves and other fellow travelers. There has already been a correspondence with Mrs F. in which we have set out our view of things. Please understand that we do not want to comment on the privacy of our guests in detail.”

We may never know if it was the whoopie or the argument which pushed the Captain of the Mein Schiff 5 to determine the cruise would be more enjoyable without Renate and Volker.
