Last month (August 2022) Google published a blog post “How to find the best deal on your next flight.” I will admit, I thought it pretty much a fluff piece when I saw the title, and then 3 minutes later after having read the piece, I realized that this offering from Google was going to help keep my travel dollars in my pocket.
The Google Flight takeaways
- Cheapest days to fly - Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday
- Nonstop flights are 20% more expensive (but are they as expensive as a hotel if you take a layover?)
- Best day of the week to book your plane tickets - all the one’s ending in “DAY” - there isn’t.
- The ideal number of days before departure to book a flight - 21-60 days out with 44 days seeming to be the rock-bottom price.
- Best time to book flights for Thanksgiving or Christmas. Lowest prices have usually been found 36-74 days before departure, hitting their lowest point 52 days out and for Christmas 22-88 days from departure.
