IATA released its annual Global Passenger Survey for 2022 and the results show passengers on the whole are very satisfied how airline have dug themselves out of the COVID downturn.
“Travel during COVID-19 was complex, cumbersome and time consuming due to government-imposed travel requirements. Post-pandemic, passengers want improved convenience throughout their trip. Digitalization and use of biometrics to speed up the travel journey is the key,” said Nick Careen, IATA’s Senior Vice President for Operations, Safety and Security.
Interestingly, it is at the end of the journey where passengers have highlighted a need for improvement, with “border control/immigration”, “Transfers”, and “baggage collection.”

Biometrics, a topic which we have been looking at for the past year, found its way into the survey and the results indicate that 88% of passengers are satisfied with the overall process and 75% are eager ditch their boarding passes and passports and use their biometric signature instead. While eager, concerns remain, which include loss of data due to data breach (there is only one you), how is the data stored and shared (tangential to the loss of data).
Here’s a nice video overview of the survey from IATA’s Twitter account:
