Knife attack on the streets of Paris

On 10 September 2018, tourists were among the seven injured in a Paris knife attack, France 24 tells us. The attacker was an Afghan national, in his thirties ,who “went on a rampage next to a canal (Bassin de la Villette) in the northeast of the capital.” The attacker was overpowered by residents and bystanders.

Before you discount the likelihood of your visit to Paris being marred by an attack. realize that the odds are admittedly low, but are not zero. That said, with prudence, some forethought into one’s visit, you can absolutely bring the odds of something untoward occuring down to as close to zero as possible.

The threat advisory specifically highlights U.S. citizens should:

  • Be aware of your surroundings when traveling to tourist locations and large crowded public venues.
  • Follow the instructions of local authorities including movement restrictions related to any ongoing police action.
  • Monitor local media for breaking events and adjust your plans based on new information.
