Kudos to Southwest Airlines for the generosity in facilitating the transport of individuals air travel from their place of residence to Guardian Angels Medical Service Dogs in Williston Florida, with their donation of 100 one-way tickets to the nonprofit. The donation, according to the charity, frees up funds to be invested in getting more service dogs trained.
“This grant award will uniquely benefit our program. In our first eleven years, we’ve paired service dogs with deserving recipients from 29 states across the nation.” said Carol Borden, Founder & CEO Guardian Angels Medical Service Dogs.
Christine Patrick, national director communications and marketing of Guardian Agnels Medical Service Dogs tells us, “the 100 one way tickets allows for 50 round trips, which aligns very well with the average number of service dogs we pair per year, currently right around 50 new teams paired each year.” She continued how recipients fly in to their Williston, Florida headquarters from all over the United States to be paired with their dogs, and that the average roundtrip costs approximately $500. She expressed both her delight and thanks to Southwest Airlines, “This is such an exciting opportunity for us, to put those funds to great use training more service dogs for those on our waiting list, and we’re so very grateful to Southwest Airlines for such an amazing gift.”
Southwest Airline’s executive vice president people & communications, Linda Rutherford, explained, “As the airline with Heart, kindness has been one of our guiding principles for our 50 years of service to our customers and the communities of which we are a part. It’s incredibly fitting that we celebrate our 50th anniversary and our one million Acts of Kindness Challenge by supporting organizations who are working today and every day to spread kindness in their communities. She concluded with, “We’re thrilled to support these organizations and the impactful ways their missions help spread kindness.”
