It is an age old problem for the capitol of India, New Delhi, the air pollution in the cool winter months. This past week has been especially heinous for the residents and visitors, so much so that the government has taken some pretty unusual steps to address the issue.
The Supreme Court of India blasted the central government of Prime Minister Narendra Modi as the “do nothing government.” and ordered the shut down of schools and factories.
For those who wish to get up-to-the-minute readings on the pollution index, the government has a site with localized data available for perusing via the “Central Pollution Control Board, Ministry of Environment, Forests and Climate Change.” As of 1400 hours local on 18 November the AQI for Chandni Chowk (the oldest and busiest market in Old Delhi) was in the red zone at 352.
