New IRA vs Northern Ireland police
According to the Guardian, “The police searches were launched after a dissident republican mortar bomb was recovered in Strabane, Co Tyrone, on Saturday. The mortar, which was positioned close to a family home, was aimed at the town’s police station. It was the seventh attempted murder bid against the security forces in Northern Ireland this year.”

Travelers to the region should maintain vigilance as the New IRA and police confrontations are increasing.
Wrong place, wrong time
The greatest threat to any traveler is being in the wrong place at the wrong time and being caught unaware of untoward activity occurring in proximity to the traveler.
For this reason, we crafted the Travel Security Checklist on Destination Information which provides tips on how to conduct research and obtain the necessary government updates, from the United States Department of State or the United Kingdom’s Foreign and Commonwealth Office, both which provide continual travel updates, alerts and warnings.
As of April 2019, the United States carries the United Kingdom, which includes Northern Ireland at Level 2 - Exercise increased caution.

Exercise increased caution in the United Kingdom due to terrorism.
Terrorist groups continue plotting possible attacks in the United Kingdom. Terrorists may attack with little or no warning, targeting tourist locations, transportation hubs, markets/shopping malls, local government facilities, hotels, clubs, restaurants, places of worship, parks, major sporting and cultural events, educational institutions, airports, and other public areas.
There is also a risk of isolated violence by dissident groups in Northern Ireland, focused primarily on police and military targets.
