Saudi Arabia is now open for tourists

Visitors from 49 countries, specifically tourists, including those who are not Muslim, now have the option to travel to Saudi Arabia on holiday. For those making the pilgrimage for Hajj, you may wish to read our piece on Hajj Travel.

The government of Saudi Arabia opened their borders in an effort to spur tourist dollars.

Things to know about Saudi Arabia

  • Visas (multiple entry) are available online or via a Saudi diplomatic mission and carry a fee of $120, which includes a supplement for local health insurance.
  • Alcohol will remain illegal in the Kingdom
  • Women are allowed to travel unaccompanied.
  • Dress - modest dress for both men and women (covered shoulders and dresses below the knees). Women will no longer be expected to wear an abaya and headscarf, however, they are still required to dress modestly and to wear.

Violation of a number of offenses will carry fines. The chart is provided, and includes indecent behavior, playing loud music in residential areas and during prayers, littering, sitting in seats for the elderly or disabled.

In addition, multiple countries have issued travel warnings for Saudi Arabia, due to the conflict with Yemen and the recent aerial attack on Saudi oil facilities.
