Spread the knowledge with a share:

For the first time in memory, Hong Kong airport was shut down for a reason other than a typhoon, as protesters occupied the airport on Monday, 12 August.

Hundreds of flights were cancelled. Disrupting the flow of both travelers who were visiting Hong Kong or transiting the airport will be affected.

After two months of daily demonstrations/protests, the closure of the airport caused us to suggest that travel to Hong Kong or through Hong Kong may be problematic in the near term.

Suggest travelers continue to monitor the situation in Hong Kong and engage with your airlines prior to departure on the situation.

Beijing has adjusted their vernacular from protests to “acts of terrorism.” This, coupled with the reporting of the massing of troops (6000 strong) along the Hong Kong border. Furthermore, China’s Ministry of National Defense spokesman, Wu Qian noted that the “Hong Kong government could ask China to allow the PLA garrison stationed in Hong Kong to maintain social order and disaster relief when needed.”
