In October 2019 travelers will once again be able to fly to Iceland via WOW airlines. The airlines assets were acquired by Michele Ballarin who leads USAerospace Associates, an aviation holding company. USAerospace bought the remaining assets of WOW Air following the demise of the airline in March 2019.
WOW Air flies again
According to aviation media outlets, the WOW Air reboot will begin with flights between Washington DC (IAD) and Reykjavik, Iceland (KEF) with two aircraft. The over the horizon plan is to increase the number of aircraft to four for the 2020 summer vacation season, with an eventual goal of 10-12 aircraft.
WOW Air with an $85 million budget to get itself off the ground will look the same, but the feel may be different. It is reported that Ballarin envisions an in-flight menu prepared by a Michelin-starred chef and a lounge for passengers at Reykjavik.
Aviation media is questioning USAerospace’s ability to get the airline off the ground and stay in operations.
Given this skepticism, trip insurance would be a wise investment if purchasing WOW Air tickets over the next 18 months
The proof will be in the pudding. We’ll find out soon enough.
